...but could anyone think of a sensible way of getting the orange thing on top of the black thing? And then back down again after a couple of weeks, and I'd obviously rather avoid any damage to the Vixen. There's not enough space around the container to build a long ramp. Dismantling and reassemble is too time consuming. Fork lift too damaging?

Phone a motor racing support company and ask them if they have a tail lift race car truck which will lift which will safely lift 800kg. That might get you most of the way there.

This is a job for the type of forklift they use on farms, generic term telehandler. Either fork it underneath after organising suitable padding etc, or slings around the wheels as in the earlier photo.

Or buy about 50 tons of soil and build up the area around the black thing. Then just drive the orange thing on.

Can't see that going high enough to clear a shipping container and safely lower the car.

Out of all the suggestions being made, the only one I'd even bother looking into is this one:

Get a professional crane company in ,who have the proper car lifting equipment to do the job.

I have lifted many vehicles with fork lifts . You need extended forks and an extra large pallet .
If possible a pallet large enough to fit the vehicle on .
Make sure the parking brake is on and in gear . Best to strap it to the lifting points on top of the container .
Or contact the local scrap man to lift it with his hiab .
If you do it yourself I can guarantee that you will clench when lifting .

I never heard mention of a shipping container and a small English sports car in any of the accounts I read, but you may have something!
