Early E - Type - This Is How I Recall Them

Just couldnt believe my eyes when we saw this Gunmetal ally dash 62 Coupe parked up on Saturday eve.
Note the big dent to the nose, just as recall seeing so many of these, scruffy, run down, in London, as a boy!

This car is listed as being red and first registered in March 1978 though.

Will be when it was imported then, either from Aus/SA/Channel Islands etc or its been converted from LHD at some point after import.

Dent apart, cars like this look better with a few stone chips and a smattering of road filth and brake dust. If I had an E Type I'd be using it every day from March to October after a good dousing in Dinitrol or whatever.

I love a properly used looking classic

Don’t get me wrong as I love a minter too and ha e too many but there is something highly refreshing seeing a dirty classic

I hadn’t washed my E type for 18 months until recently

Too many polished turds out there

This was my very used series 1. I dragged it out of a barn where it had sat for years and years and then rebuilt every mechanical part to concours std and drove it absolutely everywhere still with the barn dust on it.

If that was my "E" it would be polished and polished until it gleamed.

I lost all the patina of my E-type when she was rebuilt in 2014. We had done over 120,000 miles together, through thick and through thin, and she needed attention.



Bare-metalled, engine rebuilt, repainted in her original colours, she restarted her life once again (she had already been rebuilt once in 1987) and now, mileage diminishing due to anno domini, she has a few stone chips etc. I love her to death, (literally) and then she will pass on to a younger man who in turn will continue to drive her as she should be driven. May he enjoy her to the full. He doesn't know what will come his way one day, but I know he'll drive her to the maximum.

I’ve got too many polishers that I’m scared to use. I restored a S1 E to utter perfection but couldn’t use it and watch it deteriorate

A number of years back I was at the local JEC bonnets up evening and a guy had arrived in his XK120, it had be polished until it gleamed. Then he'd obviously been out in it giving some serious beans given the number of very squashed flies all over the front. The sort of squashed that implies it wasn't hanging around when it hit them.
