Sean Connery - DB5 Purchase
Discussion
My thoughts too, re him disliking the DB5 back then.
In circa 1963, whilst living in Nth London, he was running a scruffy Porsche 356B, followed at some stage, by a grey Bentley S.2.
In 1967, just after being paid for “You Only Live Twice”, he chose a green 1964 Jensen CV-8, which he bought from Follets of Mayfair for circa £2,200 odd.
His CV-8 is currently for sale @ circa £130,000.
Then in July 1973, he treated himself to a new Polaris Silver 3.0 CSL, via BMW main distributors for Yorkshire, Pennine Motors of Dewsbury Rd Leeds. Registering it to his embankment flat over looking the Thames, in Chelsea. We think he kept his CSL until 1976 or 1977.
It does seem strange that @ his time of life, he would want to drive a truck of a DB5, but what an icon to own !

I don't think he'll be driving it anywhere, as I don't think he's been in a position to drive anything for a good few years. At 89, and in poor health, needing a full time care/nurse, the chances of him driving it are zero I would think.More like, its seen as an investment for the family, as in a few years time, after he's shuffled off this planet, what price premium will you be able to add to a DB5 that has Connery as the last owner on the paperwork....?
Could be a shrewd investment by him for the family after he's gone.

Agreed !!!Memories have been flooding back of one lovely summers day in circa 1975. I was cycling in Chingford and turned off of the Ridgeway into what I think is Endelbury rd and parked over on the right facing towards me, was a tad down @ heel, dark blue DB5. I pulled alongside it and just stood and stared @ it slack jawed, for ages. Back then an Aston had such an exclusive image and one rarely saw one. I can still see in my minds eye, the chrome badging on the right side of the bonnet. Sadly, I never saw it again.
If he's in that state of health with carers then there's no way he'd be fit to drive something like that, or any other car. I agree likely bought it as a family investment. And in a few years some muppet will pay circa 5 million for it because it was owned by (but wasnt driven by) Sir Sean Connery.
What about Pierce Brosnans Vanquish?

..he must have had 2, as I believe he lost one to Malibu wildfire.

Sorry to hear he is poorly. A natural performer, and a man of enormous charisma.
He was never a man to waste money so I'm sure it wasn't bought for sentimental reasons at something approaching £800k I guess. Aston Workshop is currently punting (Led Zeppelin) Robert Plant's DB5 suggesting it should make something near the £1.8m that Sir Paul McCartney's DB5 apparently made recently. I can't see that, personally, Indeed I think that you might have to deduct the cost of a hygienic clean, followed by a £250k rebuild to make it look like the Bond DB5.
But Sir Sean Connery's DB5, that would be something, even if the previous registered keeper doesn't appear on the certificate now all they would need is a copy of the last V5C with his name on it, plus some other documentation and a nice selection of memorabilia.
Remember, for a lot of people, even now, Sean Connery IS James Bond. For the right person, for whom this would be at least as good as BMT 216A, that has to be good for £500k over the standard price. Clever idea.

I really don’t get this.
If he has bought a DB5 then he’ll never use it. It won’t be Sean Connery’s DB5 if it is in the UK and he is on his death bed in whichever tax haven he currently resides.
Sure he might pose beside it (assuming he is well enough) if they ship it out there but he’ll never have driven it - it was never “his car”.
Then when he snuffs it the thinking is some mug will pay over the odds for it because an 89 year old had his name on the reg documents for a while? Also, does his family really need an extra 500k after he dies?
Seems a bit cynical to me. I hope the family aren’t taking advantage of a frail old man.
