Andrew English names his top 100 best and most culturally significant cars of all time.

The Mk1 Golf is second in the list, and I'm proud to say it's my car they featured!

YouTube video: https://youtu.be/Wa2yftEGi_4

Full list here: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/guides/100-best-cars/

The list seems to be dividing opinion from what I’ve seen - they always do - but there’s lots of iconic classics in there.

They want me to hand over my card details, before I can read much. How about embracing the internet with a free article, selling advertising alongside it? Works for the Daily Mail.

Having the Golf as the second best car ever means it has no credibility at all in my book!

Was it sponsored by the Germans, a la Goodwood ...

I've had 3 Golf's, but none appeared in the top 10 I saw - and I don't have any intention to pay the Telegraph to read further down their list! blah

Not sure I'd put a Golf in the top 100 if t was my list. Certainly shouldn't be Number 2!

All lists based on opinion are a waste of ones time, for the following six reasons . . .

The associated readers poll is a far more accurate indication of the best cars ever made smile

"Best" is a stupid criterion as it's totally subjective without any further qualification.
As for "culturally significant", presumably the Mini will be top of the list ? Or the Ford Model T ? Or the Austin 7 ? Or the VW Beetle ?

So I take it you've not actually looked at the list? I think from memory he put the Model T at number one. The readers' poll put the Mini at number one.

Even the guy who wrote it basically said it was meaningless, just his opinion, just for fun etc.

Funny that you mention that, because:

a Jaguar XJ based Daimler Double Six on place 99 ? a VAG based Bentley Continental placed at 81 and a Jaguar I-Pace on place 25 ?

All those cars shouldn't even be in the list.

I'd have thought that the XJ and especially the V12 variant should be right up near the top of any list of greatest cars, so I can't see why the plusher Daimler Double Six shouldn't be. I'd have thought that they'd go for the VDP variant.
