Rover SD1 resto, Oz style

This came up in my YouTube feed this morning. A couple of teenage Aussies embarking on the restoration of grandads Rover SD1 in a fantastic shade of green. Hadn’t run in 10 years.
I admire their enthusiasm, but they could do with a bit of H&S “ejumication”.....

The colour is called Triton , looks better with the gold wheels that were std on the V8S of 1979 vintage, as was the rather nasty brown trim .IIRC there were only 1000 of them produced in that colour but may be mistaken after 40 years ! (paint definitely Triton though )

Had one in the day lovely comfortable family car, thirsty, handled well , brakes slightly behind available performance ! but rotted to bits in short order. ie 9 yrs.
The QC / build quality was ,as mentioned, I recall rather lacking.
Styling by David Bache was a knock off of the Daytona .

Great cars - a mate of mine had a caged one that he raced in the Toyo Tyres Winter Series many years ago.

I drove it down to Goodwood for a track day ahead of his race season, and with the other tweaks it had it was fantastic (and loud)!

My mates, it's a VDP EFI , one of only about 1500 made .
I had a 3500 in the same colour back in the mid 90s .
Loads of fun , fast , handled well , drunk like a fish and the build quality was atrocious.
The VDP is up for sale at about £9.5k
