E5 labels and ethanol free petrol

For others who would prefer not to put ethanol mixed fuel into their older cars.
Shell have confirmed that V power now likely contains up to 5% Ethanol.
in the UK, Shell regular unleaded and Shell V-Power unleaded are likely to contain some ethanol, but it will not be present at more than 5% (in accordance with current UK specification requirements).
B.P. .... "the inclusion of bioethanol in our BP Ultimate Unleaded supply chain is an evolving situation and we are therefore unable to give you categorical assurances as to its absence or presence. However we can assure you that – as required by The Motor Fuel (Composition and Content) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 – the content of bioethanol in our BP Ultimate Unleaded petrol may contain up to 5% ethanol and diesel fuels up to 7% biodiesel. Currently there are no plans to increase the ethanol content."

The E5 sticker on the Synergy Supreme+ petrol pumps was introduced to comply with the UK Government’s new fuel labelling standards – see https://knowyourfuel.campaign.gov.uk/. The E5 label means that the fuel contains up to 5% biofuel content, such as ethanol.
The E5 label is required even where the fuel contains no biofuel, since the labelling standard applies to all fuel that contains ‘up to 5%’ – which, of course, includes 0%.
Esso Synergy Supreme+ fuel continues to remain ethanol free (except in Devon, Cornwall, the Teesside area and Scotland). As explained above, under the UK Government’s new labelling standards we are required to display an E5 sticker on pumps dispensing Esso Synergy Supreme+ fuel.
