Has historic vehicle status been capped?

Just went to claim historic taaxation class on my 1979 Golf GTI and its coming up as not eligable.

I'm wondering if its just the databases are behind or does anyone know if its genuinly been capped by the governemt?

I thought you had to apply for exempt status rather than it being automatic?

The Historic Vehicle taxation applies to any vehicle that’s 40-years-old or more. This means any car that was produced (rather than registered) before 1977 is eligible for free VED.

The rolling system updates each April. For instance, April 2017 reclassifies all vehicles built prior to January 1, 1977.

Once April comes round you can apply, and I believe Jan-Apr rfl will be refundable.

I don't think that's the case, unfortunately. As it doesn't qualify for exemption until April 1st, why would VED from prior to that exemption be refundable?

But as above, the exemption date moves forward on April 1st, and currently the cut-off date is that your vehicle must be registered before 1st January 1979 to qualify. As the OPs car is registered in October 1979, it's not there yet. https://www.gov.uk/historic-vehicles/vehicles-exem...
