Spotted this whilst riding past today - didn’t really have time to have a good look at it but not sure what it is. Front looked MGA/B/C’ish but the kick on the rear wing looked a bit Daimler Dart...

Over to you...

Could it be one of those Datsun MGB rip offs ?
I know you're in Oz so Japanese stuff is common.

Hard to see under all the additions but the chassis front looks somewhat similar

240Z not open car.
It's probably Spitfire after more looks.

Looks like a mki or Mkii spitfire bonnet. The wings look custom or later?

+1 yes

MK1 or 2 Triumph Spitfire with after market add-on wheel arch extensions to cover the wider wheels/tyres.

I'd bet my last Easter egg on it being an early 70's Datsun Fairlady Sports...

Judging by the door handle (which is not very distinct), it looks like a Spitfire Mk II.

It's not a Datsun.

It’s a Spitfire. There are no ifs, buts or maybes about it, so not sure why people are still trying to guess obscure cars...

Bringing this one up again as I had a quick chat with the owner today - he was around as I cycled past

Confirmed Spitfire with 1300 engine. Owned by him since mid-80s and raced extensively in Australia. Has a large folder of history and modifications.

Apparently despite the appearance of the body, the chassis and running gear are in reasonable order and it’s a matching numbers car.

Likely to be sold in the v near future as he doesn’t have the time to do the necessary work.

Didn’t have time to find out more as the 6-y-o cycling with me was getting a bit antsy...
