XK120 Drophead NYX 876 Blue Nth Wales

Not sure when this shot was taken, but amazingly this October 53 120 has survived !
This is the forecourt of Pierces Garage, St Asaph Nth Wales.

Shame it’s been re painted dk blue.
It’s been used for property advertising.

That type of film and colour combined with the pump design, and I'd say it was taken around 1980-85 give or take a couple of years either way.

Appears to be a self service pump so probably 1970s at earliest. Can anyone blow up the tax disc CSI style?

The older photo isn't in the original colour either, the car left the factory in battleship grey with a grey interior and a black hood. That colour seems to be very fashionable these days or moderns Before the pale blue paint job it was BRG and the then owners son comments that there were other colours under that.

Pearl grey ? May have been it’s original colour ? But no Wonder it was re painted, who the heck would order their XK / Jag in grey !!

It wasn't pearl grey, they did a whole range of different greys, my 150 was pearl grey which is very pale but it had started life Cornish grey, which was somewhat darker and then there was battleship grey which was darker still. Grey was a really popular colour for 50s cars and as Ettore says, they look cracking in grey. Personally I prefer pearl grey to the darker shades, but there was a range of them. I've always thought it might have been down to most of the publicity shots being in black and white

I've always thought it was very shape dependant. XKs & Mk1&2s look great in grey (lighter for me), the older big saloons do to". The newer shaped cars like the E-Type and Mk10 don't. Although there was one E-Type which was ordered in pearl grey, if you hunt around on here you should be able to find a picture. I don't think it suits modern cars.

I can see why they called it Battleship Grey......although I would have said Panzer Grey might have been more accurate

As A8hex says, it suits the shape completely. My 120 was a lovely faded Old English White but I’d have one in Grey (any of them) in a heartbeat.

I do disagree on the big saloons though. The VII has a fabulous shape but, to me, looks anonymous in Grey. My one was a beautiful flat, pale blue (can’t remember the colour) and was thoroughly swish!

This is pearl grey and is the perfect colour for a 150FHC or a Mk2, I nearly bought a Ken Bell Mk2 in this colour too.
I think the big saloons are best in a two tone finish.
