Morning all,

I have two plastic mounts in the boot of my W123 estate. They are equidistant from each other and look like they may be built to support a rail.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

If it's anything like my BMW E34, extendable load / dog guard.

Look for a matching pair towards the back of the boot (load cover mode!)

I know nothing about Mercs, but those are identical to the clips for the retractable dog guard/luggage net in my old E30 Touring.

Like a luggage cover only vertical and made of netting so it's see through. That would be my bet.

Yes, that is exactly what they are. I'm not sure if it's fitted in your car, it may have been removed by a previous owner, but there is a roller that attaches to the rear of the back seat. Within the case are actually two rollers, one is a vinyl cover for the load area that extends towards the opening boot. The other is a sort of elastic mesh roller that extends up to the ceiling to act as a dog guard. I'll try and post pictures of ours later.

Cheers, mine has the boot seat option so I can't see how the base would attach.

There are two metal fixtures on each side of the back of 2/3 side of the seat. The luggage blind / cargo barrier cassette locks in to them:

You need to remove the blind to set up the rear seat:

(it is an Australian spec car in case you're wondering why it has two reversing lights).

So the back seats also lift out?

Edit - I see now, they fold down, that gives me something to play around with after work!

Thanks a lot.

Here are some pics I found on line. Here is the cargo net in place:

Then, if you fold the rear seats it can still provide a barrier to the front passengers.

As the previous poster says, to use the back seats the whole roller is removable.

Have you got any more pics of your 280TE?

Spy cameras. For when you're misbehaving in the back.

That is stunning. Any more info? How long have you had it? What's the mileage?

Looks like the ex Lord Hanson 280TE (crests on the door) - if so belonged to my next door neighbour for many years and a lovely thing it is too

How about this one for sale at €45k 280TE with a column shift auto. Pretty sure this was offered a few years ago at a similar price.

I've had it for almost a year (110k miles), I bought it at auction. JS68 is correct that it is the ex Lord Hanson car.

Needed a bit spent on it, quite a few dents and paint issues but it is looking great now.

JS68 was your neighbour the person who sent it to auction?

Yes that looks amazing. What colour is it? Forest 822? My father had a pov spec W123 200 back in the day and the 280TE was always something I thought was impossibly glamorous. Twice the price of any remotely comparable and just so majestic.

Yes it is forest green. I had been looking for years and they just don't turn up in decent condition.

My paint guy has done a superb job. I just wish I could garage it but unfortunately my wife's car takes preference!

Yes me too. ive had/have some nice cars but a 280TE in the right colours is my grail car. I've never found a good one in the right spec/colour at any price level in 10 years of looking. There is something special about these. In my opinion the classiest car ever made.

Hi Petjam - he’s moved out now but yes I assume it was my neighbour who sent it to auction. He had a number of classics that he kept at his business premises and last time we spoke just before he left 18 months ago he was thinking of moving it on as he wasn’t using it much. Funnily enough a 968 he part exchanged for a 928 was featured in the spotted section and the new owner commented that it too was in a bit of a state when he got it! He’s still around the neighbourhood so will mention this thread next time I bump into him (though who knows when that will be...)

Great to see you’ve given it the attention it deserves - enjoy
