Seen in Havana a few weeks ago. Badged as a VW, but has a bit of Renault Dauphine about it - or maybe a home-made special ?

I love the roll-over hops on the boot lid. Rear light clusters look American - maybe early 80s Mustang ?

Dauphines are now reasonably collectable so not too bright. If you are stupid enough to do this why do you faux badge it as a VW - surely Porsche, Lamborghini or whatever...

Given that the car is in Cuba, poverty and lack of parts mean that the only thing that came from the Renault factory will be the glass and some of the metal left beneath the filler.

I think they are air intakes. not rollover hoops.

I assume so, given that both the Dauphine and the Beetle are rear-engined.

Given its proximity, the donor Dauphine probably came from Brazil, built there by Willys-Overland. In Cuba the garages have to make do and mend - maybe the engine is from a Beetle hence the VW badges.
