Handbrake cable gaiter

My car had the remains of a rubber concertina gaiter between the cable sheath and the clevis, I don't really want the cost and hassle of buying a whole new cable, any ideas about how to find one and get it on - would have to go over the clevis.

I've tried ebay but that gives 97,000 results, the first few pages aren't any help!

Doesn't really make much different what it's for, but it's 1951 Healey FWIW.

Try googling 'rubber cable gaiter' or 'rubber gaiter bellows'.

Finding one that will expand enough to fit over the cable end might be the problem. Is there an owner's club forum that might have a suggestion?

But it's the fitting over the end & the length required that might be the issue.

Thanks. Looks like bellows not gaiter is the thing to search on.

Not sure how I get it over the clevis, but for a few quid it's worth giving it a try, even if I have to split the end, if I cable tie it on it'll be better than nothing.

Would giving it a quick soak in hot/boiling water to soften it up, and then a light coating of oil help?

If you have to split the new one would it be possible to slide a bit of heat shrink over it rather than cable tie

Should one be fitted anyway? Looks nice and tidy but hides what is going on inside and traps moisture.

You may be right, it did have one originally so I was going for that. Given that it'll only be driven in summer and (hopefully) in good weather it's easy to clean and grease it when greasing all the other things that need greasing - lots of nipples!
