I recently saw this 1967 film for the first time. Scripted by Frederic Raphael, and starring Albert Finney at 30, and Audrey Hepburn at 37, it's a sophisticated, emotionally honest story of a marriage, told in a series of flashbacks, arranged non chronologically, of road trips through France in a series of delightful cars. Finney and Hepburn's on screen chemistry reflects the fact that they had an affair while making the film, and they, the cars, and France, all look gorgeous throughout the movie.

The trailers on Youtube do not do the film justice - it's well worth watching.

I saw this a few years back as well. Superb film, but sad. I had no idea that Hepburn and Finney had a fling whilst making this film !!

I’ve often wondered if their Pagoda has survived ?

I saw this film first time round. At the time, I was a struggling young architectural student, driving a T type MG with my girlfriend riding shotgun. Almost the film in real life. I too graduated like Finney and married that girl.

When I retired, the office presented me with a framed poster, photoshopped with photos of me placed in the scenes of some of my fave movies.
Two for the Road was one of those films.
The image was updated with Audrey Hepburn still pushing me, but in my current sports car, a Caterham 7.
Glad you enjoyed the movie.

Wow !!

I had no idea that they got down to one of my favourite locations in France, the Alpes de Martimes “ !! I drove through there in July 93, in my much missed R5 GT Turbo.

I shall fire up my Amazon and watch the film again - the screenplay really is good, and the characters are convincingly realised. The two best cars are the white Merc and the silver Alfa, IIRC. Also very cool clothes worn by the principles, and the fabulous Eleanor Bron in a comic role as a dreadful American.

I was chatting to an ex about this film yesterday, and she observed that her personal style (she is a very stylish woman) was heavily influenced by Audrey Hepburn's outfits in this movie. She still has a version of the dress that Hepburn wears at the party in the final scene. Of course, wanting to look like Audrey Hepburn is a common enough thing, but one of the features of Two For the Road is that Hepburn did not wear couture in it as she did in most of her films, but was instead dressed up in the sort of clothes that the character would have worn, just as Finney drives the sort of cars that his character would have driven, with the lovely Pagoda Merc the emblem of his business success.
