Hi,

Although I had a major clear-out I still keep back issues of one magazine, over 30 year's worth, which I use as a reference. They are square-spined. In the past I've tried to store other magazines like books on a shelf, but it never seems to work as they can't support their own weight. At the moment they are in stacks the other way up (lying on the back with other magazines on top). However, I want to move the magazine area to a different shelf and they won't fit this way round!

Any clever ideas? Binders will quickly become expensive tough is looking like the best option at the moment.

Thanks

Complete set (38 years) of Classic & Sportscar in boxes in my loft. More a burden than an asset but I can't bring myself to get rid.

It's easy to scan and save magazine pages as searchable PDF files so if it's just a case of storing the contents for future reference, invest in an A3 scanner.

If you are storing them in a dry, dustfree atmosphere then you can't beat these, each one will take about 20-30 magazines. I've got some in a cupboard in the garage, some in my study/spare bedroom.

That looks like good value. I've been using the Ikea equivalents. Flimsy cardboard ones ("Fluns") are a quid for 4 and will just about hold a year's worth of Practical Classics but won't last long if you're pulling the mags out and stuffing them back in often.

Slightly bigger, more robust ones ("Tjena") are £4 a pair. Fancier options are also available.

And for the finishing touch, you can do what I do and scan the magazine's logo then print it out on address labels to stick on the front nerd

Thanks for the replies. I'll do some measuring but the files look good. Wouldn't have thought to look at either Ikea or Poundland so very helpful.

I have over 80 or so back issues of Practical Classics mags going back to the early 90s, I think one or two from the mid 80s, just piled in a cupboard, some in quite good condition. Even though they are taking up space I just can't cherish the thought of parting with them and chuck em in the bin. Love looking through them when I have the time, particularly the classifieds and those memory lane photos which seem to be absent in current issues of the magazine, and it's nice to see the photos that haven't been messed with by adding some silly HDR filtering or speech marks over the photo that they seem to do with the issues now. I've tried scanning one or two magazines, but halfway through the scanning process using my bog standard Canon A4 scanner I end of giving up trying to scan the remaining pages in as it's unbelievably time consuming and tedious. It's easier to photograph them with a DSLR.

Yesterday I chucked a load of Slice magazines (the Scimitar Owners Club mags) in the bin that my dad used to receive, nothing remotely interesting about reading those as all they talk about is track days at Curborough. Boring.

I bloody knew somebody would spot that! biggrin

I'm left-handed. That was written with my right hand, and sideways, because I had to fill the box before I knew how many mags would fit.

I even thought about adding an extra digit to all the dates just to make it look deliberate...
