I think the soon to be expanded London ULEZ is going to give post Historic class vehicles a fair old kicking value wise.

ULEZ is an area inside the Nth and Sth Circ which will expand to operate 24/7/365 from late 2021. The game for these eco types is to get "dirty" cars off the road. You can drive your car in the zone as long as you fork out a punitive £15!

The cut off date is around 2005 or older for petrol cars and 2015 for DERV. This runs up to the Historic class that comes in at cars over 40 years.

The trouble is that most of the pre 2005 cars in London are bangers just about soldiering on. I see a few heaps on the street like old Golfs,Mercs and Micra's etc. They make up a tiny proportion of cars on the road.

But what is tangled up in this "eco land grab" is cherished tasty modern stuff. From Elise's to air cooled 911's. From Ferraris to Lamborghini's. Lancia Integrale's to Sierra/Escort Cosworth's. Late Astons. Late Alfa's. Caterham's. Mini Cooper's. Land/Range Rovers. Jap exotica. VW GTI's. Hot Renault's etc etc etc.

So much stuff is going to be hit with a £15 charge 24 hours a day just to drive your car. No matter what their value it's a proper dampener on a trundle out.

Some cars are close to the Historic cut off so will be OK. But a 1997 993 is a long way off.

Given the above and given that I live in Z1/2 I will not be buying a "modern classic". To drive it say 10 times in the summer will be £150 which is a diabolical liberty.

Conversely my Messerschmitt KR200 is a filthy two stroke that perhaps chucks out as much pollution as say 100 new cars! It's VED,MOT and ULEZ exempt!

Happy days!!!

Yeah, my V8 and V6 polluters will have to go, being 1989 and 1994 they will cost money just to start them up.

Two options: Cover the plates up until I get out of my borough (a mile and a half away) or get a pre-81 car. '66 Mustang. scratchchin
