and is it all you hoped and dreamt it to be??

My poster car was an Aston V8 Vantage of the 70’s while all my mate typically had the Countach or the latest Ferrari.

12 years ago I realised my dream when I purchased a late V8 Vantage and it surpassed my wildest dreams. More than happy and I have my “forever car”

That’s not to say I didn’t hanker after others as I certainly did. I love a TR6 (had plenty) and an Etype (my dad had a new one in 73-83).

What we got?

The poster on my wall was a tennis playing girl scratching her pert little backside.

This iconic shot was taken in Birmingham in 1976

Fiona Butler is the stunning chick. She was 18 then.

I well recall the poster still being available in the late 80s, when I was a stationery Rep for a dire Jap pen company, calling on Athena stores.

As a very small child I used to live around the corner from a large Ford dealership. My dad was well-known there as he ran a fleet of company cars for employees. He had ran Fords prior to me being born, then switched to Nissan. He then went back to that Ford dealer and as a kid I’d always be grabbing the latest Ford brochures and I still have them. They also used to have huge posters on the showroom wall of the latest models and knowing I was a big brochure collector, they give me the old posters when they swapped for the new ones they were sent.

So, the first car poster I ever remember having, although it was too big for any of the walls in the house, was a Ford Sierra Sapphire 2000E. I would quite like to own one today as they’re so rare and a nice spec.

I do now own a Ferrari 308 GTB, which was one of THE poster cars for a generation, but was slightly before my time in that sense!

I had a huge Athena poster of a 308 in my room as a student, it was about the size of a door and kept falling down when the blutak gave out. Have never owned one and doubt I ever will (never meet your heroes etc). But in any case it wasn’t my dream car, that was the Quattro and that has very much fulfilled its promise. I also wanted a TR6 and likewise, despite the vitriol heaped on that type by various experts over the years (crude, doesn’t handle, PI is crap etc, it continues to delight and thrill. I have nice framed posters of both of them in my study now too. cool

I do not own an MG Metro or Maestro (they must've been free with something), nor do I think the contents of "Kerrang" constitue a vehicle of any kind; however I would not refuse a Maestro Turbo.

My poster car was a Ferrari Daytona, but sadly I don't (and never will) own one. frown

But I had a 1991 Sierra Sapphire 2000 GLSi back in the mid-90s with the same running gear as a 2000E which was no end of grief, so I really wouldn't recommend a 2000E - despite the extra goodies!

My 1985 Scorpio was a far better car in every way.

Just enjoy your 308 GTB!

Superb film. I visited a pub in Kent about 6 years ago, with an ex. I was astounded to see lots of photographs on the walls of the films cast etc. Turns out, that they all stayed there whilst filming !

This film gave James Garner the bug to go racing and in 68, his “ All American Racers “ ran two 427 Corvettes in the States.

Francoise Hardy is rather tasty BTW !

Of the various posters on my wall, three had cars - a 308, a Countach and a 928, and I'm lucky enough to have an S4 in the garage now. I think the other two are too far out of reach now, and besides, there's an Elan DHC Sprint and E28 M5 ahead of them in the queue...

Quite a few TR6 lovers which surprises me.

Hailed as the last of the Hairy Chested British sports cars. I think they were right. I’ve had 7 and my current one is currently going through a huge mechanical up grade.

When I was about 20 in about 1984 I dreamt that one day I would own a 928 and my Woman would have a Range Rover.

I’ve had plenty of 928’s but not when they were current and my Woman has never had or wanted a RR.

I had an MG Metro and Maestro. My Father had a Maestro Turbo for 10 days before he stuffed into the back of a tractor and trailer. It was due it's first service the next day frown
My poster car when I was 15 was a Land Rover. 40 years later I finally bought one. It's noisy, bumpy, smelly, slow and I love it biggrin

Nope, not a hope, as it was a multicar Shelby Cobra poster of 289's, 427's and Daytona's.

The other two posters on my then early teenage wall were the iconic b&w one of Marilyn Monroe in the billowing white dress standing over the subway grate.....and one bought from the RAFM Hendon shop in the 70's of the EE Lightning going vertical over RAF Binbrook.

Mine was an Escort Cosworth from reading Max Power in the mid/late 90s. I bought one in 2012 and still have it. It’s a keeper (until my clutch knee gives out then I will swap for a v8 vantage auto)

Makes a big difference on these

I have, but I am also one for originality and some of the work requires removing the gearbox which I am not in a position to do at the moment. I also only drive it about 1,000 miles a year so can’t justify the cost. I am fortunate to have other cars to drive so I drag it out occasionally
