I'm trying to find out any information regarding my dad's old Bristol 409. It was the first car I rode in, home from the hospital in 1993, and I would be keen to know what happened to it. I believe it lived on Jersey for much of its life, until it made its way to London in the late 80s and somehow became my dad's company car in the early 90s, replacing a lightly crashed Jaguar XJS. I believe he changed cars in late 1993 (to an XJ40 Sovereign, a bit of a drop in quality!) I've checked the registration on the DVLA site but am sadly too dim to know what the information actually means. It seems unlikely that a car like this would have been scrapped, but I guess you never know. Could it have been replated maybe? Or exported?

Below are some pictures of it in and around our garage during construction. It's probably a long shot but I'd like to know if there's any info out there on it.

It’s tax was due in January 1992 and a V-5 was issued on 25th Feb 1999.

It says NO, to Export, but that doesn’t mean that it hasn’t gone abroad.

It also says that it was first registered in May 1987, for some reason.
But built in 1967.

It was listed as Grey in 1999.

Could be when it came from Jersey? I believe that was about 1987, but I'm not sure why that would mean it needed reregistering. Unless it had another plate until 87?

Jersey plates are different to mainland ones, so it probably would have been re-registered.

I don't think it was. My dad has had an interesting car history but wasn't a car person in that he just bought a car, drove it and got someone else to recover and fix it when it inevitably broke down. Seems unlikely that his car was painted while under his ownership. It's possible it went red sometime after he owned it I guess. Could it just have been driven over to Europe? Or would that show up as 'Export' or something?

If the paperwork was done properly, the DVLA should show an "Export" marker on the car.

But many times, the paper work isn’t done properly and Swansea not received the “ Export “ tear off slip.

I've checked quite a few cars / bikes that I know are now no more - but they still show up on DVLA site
Makes me wonder what percentage no longer exist - not saying that's the case here though - just that paperwork isn't always filled out correctly

Try contacting BODA - https://bristoloda.org/

If it’s gone abroad since then, chances are the owner will be a member
