Hope you folks can help. I am hiring an e type as a present for a freind. I want to insure the excess but everything I can find has vehicle age restrictions i.e. no older than 10 years. Are there any specialist firms i can go to. Thanks in advance

Blimey how much is the excess? Not worth trying to insure it surely.

Excess is £1500 I have annual excess insurance for hire cars. It covers excess well above that amount and I paid £29 for it this year. Problem is the age restrictions. So thought there may be a specialist who would cover it.

Ask Classicline, Flux, Lancaster, and Footman James. All are brokers .

At Lloyds, you can insure anything, at a price.

I have an annual policy with Questor Insurance that covers excess on hire cars. For about £40 a year I just renew automatically: covers me for hire cars in the UK and abroad. We generally hire a car each year on holiday but if the need arose in the UK would provide the same cover. Not sure of restrictions because I've so far only hired the usual Astra / Fiat 500XL / Dacia holiday cars, but worth a look.
