Historic new car prices - good source?

Does anyone know a good source for historic used car prices, mainly 70s/80s. I.e in 1973 x car cost y, in 1975 it was z. I'm guessing old automotive magazines, any recommendations?

This is for UK prices.

I should think any of the car magazines that dealt with new cars would have this information. However, finding this information online would be a different matter, since I'm not aware of any such resource. I presume that was the crux of the question?

In an ideal world yes, but I've never been able to find such a source! If there was a magazine of the period that had a good "the knowledge" type section that would be the next best thing, could then do some leg work trying to track down scans etc.

I have copies of Autocar from 1955 to 1975 on the shelf. What year do you want?

How about buying the September issue of "Motor" (as one example) for each year of interest? I suggest September as this will have the pricing for the new models in after the summer shutdown, although I suppose August would do too.

When I wanted to know the new price of a 1981 car, I bought an issue of Motor for that year from ebay. Cost maybe £2 and was a lot better reading than the modern drivel !

Old copies of something like Parkers Guide - I have a few from the '70s ; unfortunately I've misplaced my copies from the mid-60s, which is annoying.

thanks for the advice all, I've grabbed a 1980 issue of Motor off eBay to have a look at, if it gives me what I need then I'll look into getting other years over time when I can snag them cheap - if its of use I'll probably transpose into a spreadsheet which can be shared on Google docs.

There must be an online guide as I have seen and heard traders refer to it to see the trends on particular models. I've even seen a graph of ferrari 308 prices over 3p years or more showing the downs and lately ups of their sales. I'm assuming it's a the collating of sales from auction and private trades etc
Unfortunately I cannot find it online. I assume its a paid for service but I would certainly be interested in such a site to research the cars I'm interested in prior to purchases.
They definitely have them in America as again I've seen Wayne Carini using them on his shows to price up cars coming up for sale.
