We live in a world where old cars are silly money (apart from any I might own)

This looks like it’s a proper resto with a few bells and whistles to make it a bit easier to live with.

Not all the modifications are to my taste, but given the work the price seems not too bad to me.

Saw that on eBay last night - priced raised an eyebrow, but as someone else said, this may be exactly what "somebody" is looking for. Not me though.

Stuff like this suffers an identity crisis: it's not original enough to be a classic (in the true, commonly-held meaning of the word) but neither is it in any way modern to drive.

My £85K would buy something else, I'm afraid.

TRs aren't known for Lexus-like panel fit, I thought they didn't look too bad.

If I was spending that on TR6 – which I wouldn't – I would either want the full restomod treatment, with Neil Revington's suspension mods for example, or it would have to be factory original.

Coincidently the 'first production TR5' is being advertised in this month's Motorsport for £85k.

"Resto-modded" classics to personal tastes can often limit the sellers audience. Reading the Restorers resto-blog it seems the car was shipped to Mauritius to the new owner, returned for service and put up for sale.

£85k is huge money for sure, and look at what you can get for that money.

Just for a comparison, and its not quite apples to apples, here are two US auction results for original low mileage TR6's. It's doubtful the potential buyer of an original low mileage TR6 would be the same buyer as the 'resto-modded' TR6 though.

The saffron '71 car with 7k miles didn't meet reserve at $50k and I think not having any good documented history to back it up hurts it's sale

This red '76 with 5k miles had more paperwork, but under the bonnet was sprayed with an underseal from new.

Think it’s hard to restomod a TR6 and make it feel like it’s worth 85k or even 50k.

The design with the separate chassis etc doesn’t help it work.

As much as I love a 6 it’s only ever goi fb to be a 60’s sports car

I can’t stop Laughing........

I’ve had probably 12 of these over the years and restored and then ran 2 as daily drivers from 82 - 86.

BUR 174K will Always have a special place in my heart, that’s for sure - especially after running into the back of a scruffy Transit van one Saturday in Walthamstow after clocking a Hot chick @ a bus stop......

They are crude, terrible in the wet and their chassis flex is appalling.
I do still have a strong affection for the 6, but this price is laughable.

Surely an 85K budget would be better spent on a E-Type?

TR4man....I think you did very well limiting your comment to just the wing mirrors!!

Since seeing this on eBay and posting this on here, I spoke to a TR owner in my road and after seeing it, his comment was: "a good car ruined - that will take £20K to put right!".....which I agree with!

They're a strange car. I've owned a few, and in standard form at least, they're actually pretty awful.

Any yet .... I'd probably still have another one confused

I think the thing is with a TR6 is that, as standard, you have actually quite good performance even by 1980's standards, on a chassis that was pretty much early 1960s tech and a big old compromise at that. So there's this big mis-match between how it drives and how fast it can go. And then things like the giant standard steering wheel all conspire to make it all a bit of a handful and not necessarily always in a good way.

Or a mid seventies 911, with 80k or so buying a stunning example.

That would be my thoughts as well. I've driven a few well sorted TR6 & they all felt massively out of date.
