Old car people rock, 250GT SWB
Discussion
I was at the London Concours standing next to the Stirling Moss and Graham Hill Ferrari 250GT SWB and mentioned what a beautiful car it was when the owner offered to let me sit in it!
This, and similar kind gestures by classic enthusiasts really do mean a lot to me and to most of us.
It made my day. And thankyou.

Is that Clive Beecham? He also owns the 2nd place '57 Le Mans long nose D Type! That is some collection.
Whilst at Goodwood I was stood admiring this car and started chatting to the bloke stood next to me. I explained it was one of my favourite cars and had a painting of it on my wall at home. He turned round and said you'd better have a sit in it then and opened the door. Made my week I can tell you, what a gent letting the great unwashed sit in his car.

I may have told this story before...
A few years ago we were on a rally in Italy where I admired the Bentley of one of the other participants. The year after that, on the same rally the owner of the car asked me if I wanted to take a ride in the Bentley. I ran to my wife to ask her to take some pictures. When I wanted to step in the passengerseat the owner said: "no, I asked if you wanted to drive..." My knees started shaking... A big Bentley is something different than my small MG J2... I still watch the video that my wife made when we left the parking space with a big smile. In the video you can hear my wife say that I must be crazy when she hears that we are going for a ride.

I've fairly regularly taken my Gordon-Keeble to the Under Seventeen Car Club Magic Day at Castle Coombe, and I'm always happy to let the members (if they are sufficiently experienced) (or indeed their parents) have a go. Never had any problems, in fact usually I need to encourage them that it's OK to give it a bit more welly! Works the other way as well -I've got to drive a Cerbera, DBS V8, Citroen SM, Jaguar XK150....
In Ferrari circles I’m sure lots of people will know a true gentleman named John Goodwin. He hillclimbs his 250GT and is not too precious about it. I worked for a little shop who John was a regular customer, he’d rock up in all sorts of cars and take me for a spin ‘around the block’.
He has a vast and eclectic car collection, that all get thrashed!! He even has an old Austin car on a brick plinth, on a roundabout, as a garden ornament, at the home he built for his gardener (complete with helipad and 18 car garage).
He’s simply a legend!

I recall a Ferrari Owners outing that went to the Doune Hill Climb - It was a 40th anniversary of Doune, and remember chuckling at the modern Ferrari's being 'tickled' up the hill, but the oldest of the lot a red 250 GT was piloted by an older fellow in full attack mode. It was brilliant to see. He has a vast and eclectic car collection, that all get thrashed!! A bit of Googling suggests it may have been the same car and owner.
