Loved these when they were first launched. Looks a bit so, so now though IMO.

Still....could always rip out the engine and stick in a 205 1.9 GTi with a Dimma kit.

Why not put the Dimma kit on the Mi 16 engine? It was the 160bhp version anyway.

I had an Mi16 4x4 for a year or so in the early 90s. Efficient but boring, went back to a 2.8i Capri, much more fun.

Best way to spend 20,000 euros on a car and for 99% of the population to think you are broke and driving an old Peugeot 405. (coming from an old Peugeot owner)

The best of the 405's to me with the full 2.0 litre engine, if I recall correctly, rather than the 1.9.

As with MustangGT i also had an Mi16 4x4 which was a very capable, and comfortable, car but agree with the boring bit.

I haven't seen ones of these in the flesh for 20 years. I too used to own a Mi16 405, it was s lovely car to drive and still have a hankering for a Citroen bx 16v. That looks tidy, but 20,000 euro, I not sure who buys these?

I think the 2.0 was built on a budget, it was down on power compared to the 1.9 and it was made with a iron block rather than the lighter alloy block of the 1.9.

When they put the Cat and all the associated electronics on the MI16 they ruined it. The old 1.9 XU9 16v engine was easily the best.
In the early 90`s I had a 1.9 Mi16x4. I had it re-chipped, K&N induction mod, wide Speedline's. That car was a real bat mobile, the handling was amazing, remember this was 30 years ago, it would do 150mph and stick to the road like glue.

Nearly bought a Mi16 x4 circa 1995, but found it had been clocked and walked away. They were hard to find back then.

I really like the Mi16 and tried to buy one around 2004 when I had a 405 SRI with the 2.0-litre block, but all 1.9s were ropey and the 2.0s just didn’t feel much better than the SRI.

Would still like one, if I had the space. And cash.

Same with me. I put a deposit on a Mi16, looked very good, “private seller”, nice chap. Put an HPI check on it, found it was a total loss and sold for scrap!!! Got my deposit back, I later discovered that this “nice chap” was selling cars belonging to a breakers yard.

These had the later cat engine in them, there was a guy in a local Pug group at the time who bought one new.

Great looking car and spec but was (like my 309 Goodwood) just the run out model to clear the 405's out before the 406 came along. Not seen another this century, can't be many left at all.

Wasn't fast, and the handling was just OK. Awkward looking too.

I sold mine after it blew a HG on its second engine.

Performance Car mag ran one as a long-termer. Integrale-fan staffer Howard Lees loved it……but you’re right, in the long-term running reports it often seemed to be going wrong.

When I needed room for kids and a cheap 4-door I looked at 405 Mi-16s ( had enjoyed my 309GTi ) but after viewing a few I put my sensible head on and bought the equally good Primera GT

I had a black Mi16 for 3 years from late 88, about 35,000 if my memory serves with no problems. Over the years often thought I’d like to try and find one.

I always felt it had the wrong engine in it. It was perfect for the 205 as you needed to ring its neck,which suited the 205. In a big saloon with headlight washers it needed something more. And as a homologation car it was disappointing compared to its peers.

Funnily I looked a Primera GT was also on my short list. I really wanted a pulsar gtir but couldn't quite stretch to one. Ironically, with what the pug ended up costing the gtir would have been a better choice, even factoring in gearbox rebuilds.

Start of the year on my way back from work we drive passed a transporter what looked fully loaded with 405.... No way who would save a transporters worth of 405`s.... quick google search - https://www.drive.com.au/news/old-peugeots-never-d... and since then I've seen about 40 or so on the road...
