Hi,

My in laws bought a bungalow near to us a few years ago. The previous owner was pretty lax about forwarding post, but for a while would collect post now and again when prompted by phone (they were secretive about their new address for reasons unknown). They have since changed phone number, so we have no way of contacting them. This arrived last year, and it has sat in the garage since:

I doubt it’s worth much, but I presume he must have purchased it off eBay or similar. There was no sender’s address on the packaging. I’m loathe to toss it in the recycling if it’s of any use to anybody given it’s clearly survived for many years. The bits and pieces all still move.

I’m in the West Midlands if anyone wants to collect, or will post if necessary. I don’t want anything for it.

If it's a 1.75" they are worth a bit to the Mini fraternity, even in that condition, as they are good for up to 95bhp on a tuned A series. If it's a 1.5" much less so

Thanks, I’ll measure it tomorrow. I presume that’s the bore of the inlet?

Had one on my 1400cc Avonbar engined Mini. It's an SU HIF6 (Horizontal Integrated Float) or perhaps an HIF44. depending on age.

Unless the OP is David Seaman, from the pic of it in his hand, it doesn't look like a 1.75".

The size ,is the size of the butterfly part of the Carb, the size of the exit of the Carb.Curiously ,the diameter of the inlet to the carb is often smaller?

Going by the damper cap and dashpot shape, I'd disagree that it's a metric SU. Both of those have a ball bearing supported dashpot, with a larger diameter/shorter 'spout'.

It's a HIF 4 or 6 - fairly early, I'd say. It was also a part of a multi carb setup - the butterfly is open and there appears to be no return spring.

The little aluminium tag that's attached to one of the dashpot screws (the top part of the carburettor with the screw on top) in the foreground of your picture will have a number stamped on it - if you post that we'll be able to tell you what the carb was off when it was new (doesn't mean the needle is still to that calibration, of course).

Ha! The diameter at the butterfly end is very slightly less than the other end, which is 44mm- 1.75”. Not so much a goalie, more the archetypal PH powerfully built director! (I wish!)

Attached pic of the tag mentioned:

Google thinks it's one of the carburettors from a V8 Rover P6.

The ball joint on the butterfly arm would corroborate this.

It's a HIF6 as said, not a 44.
