Finding storage
Discussion
I'm looking to purchase my first classic and provided it's less than 4.85m long I can garage it at home.
However I often like larger old barges bentley, rr etc
How have people found a good storage solution local to them.
Most caravan places near me are outdoors, not found any proper storage facilties fir cars with sensible prices, probably cos there are very few in the general area (Newcastle-upon-Tyne)
Just wondering if any certain techniques have proven worthwhile for others.
Have already been googling large garages for rent, small units to rent etc but they are all quite expensive (£100 pw)
Just interested how others have squared this circle

Cant help but I’m in Northumberland and trying to find somewhere to store my old Boxster over winter and ideally acquire a restoration project or two. I’m also struggling to find anywhere.
If there are ever a few people within a reasonable distance interested in clubbing together to share a space I’d certainly be interested

I think dry, undercover, storage for vehicles is a problem for restorers etc over a wide part of the country. Prices can be surprisingly high. Farm barns are rarely a worthwhile solution, other than short term.
I'm surprised that more hasn't been done by local groups/clubs to find a larger suitable site where the costs could be shared by others.

Just out of interest, is storage that much in demand? I have a large dry unit and I've never really given it much though of letting it out to fellow enthusiasts.
If it's safe, secure, dehumidified or dry, within reasonable driving distance of a major city or nice driving area or airport, and you can make it available 24/7 you can probably charge £100-200 per car per month I'd imagine. I was paying £86 a month for something similar around 8yrs ago.
I think the unit is about half a hour from lincoln. I used to store my cars there but to be honest, found it a faff driving there and collecting a car to use for the day so I ended up building a big garage at home. That said it would be handy if you only had room for one classic and wanted to rotate the one your using.

I rent a couple of lock ups from local council, they are in decent area with good security locks and cctv, £43 a month each
That sounds a bargain to be fair. You don't usually have power or lighting though in council lock ups where we are if you want a carcoon etc. https://www.carbag.com/carjacket/
I've used the Permabags for years (and they work well) but they are pretty expensive now.

Would it be impractical to add another metre or so to your garage? Moving the doors back a bit should come in under £2k and then at least you have it at home.
Otherwise put an advert in your local paper or local Facebook groups. You never know.
I can vouch for car storage away from home being a pain. You rarely go, and if anything needs doing you have to take all your tools. I'd definitely recommend keeping it at home if you can.
