Morris Lesley Auction Today
Discussion
Didn't see it so cannot really comment on the specific sale but a few thoughts
It's a little remote from the greater population of the UK (not as remote as me, I find it difficult to sell (or buy) anything due to distance time/cost which reduces my .sale price as a result).
Reserve prices have been going regularly upward for the last few years. Good condition cars and shabby stuff folk are hoping to make a few quid but which in reality aren't financially viable to restore (unless prices continue to rise). People are seeing cost of living rises and the possibility of mortgage rise and are maybe looking to tighten their belts. In addition, I look at the price of some stuff for sale and think " that was only £x last year (or 5 years ago), I'm not paying that"
There are so many internet auction sites now, a new one springs up every week so competition for the auction house is fierce. Many sellers are so peed off with ebay, it's scammers and no shows, that they are prepared to pay that little bit extra for a better presentation and definite sale (assuming their reserve isn't too high). Auction house fees seem high, they've got a lot of costs for storage, staff, etc that they can't compete with internet sites where the cars are stored at the sellers home. Buyers need to factor in the costs on top of the sale price. Always thought Mathewsons were quite expensive for fees.
