Do you need someone to be actually at the auction, or just look over something beforehand? It's quite local to me (~12 miles) if the latter.

According to their website you can only view prior to the auction.
" We’re sorry, but our auction days are currently closed to the public "
What does that mean - you come and look the day before and then bid on the phone on the day of the auction?" We’re sorry, but our auction days are currently closed to the public "
Can we use this thread for a general chatter about Derek's auctions ?
Just browsed the March catalogue and fell in love with no. 244 , immaculate FIAT 600 , suicide doors n everything , colour's a bit
old school drab but like these so much more than a Nuova 500 . Don't have the £££ to buy though......

ETA....no. 303 another Escort RS1600i , colour of this one looks too dark to be Sunburst red ,so not an original RSi colour.....

In 1967 my Mum had an inheritance after her Dad passed away and bought her first car, a 1967 Fiat 600 in Sand Tan (looked as boring as it sounds) for £425, but it did have the "roll back" vinyl roof - LTA 602F where are you now? Probably in a skip years ago!
It needed welding work on the sills for the MOT in the early 70s but my Dad being a true Scot used to bundle all 4 of us in it for 40+ mile visits to relatives while his Fiat 125 sat in the garage.

But it was the first car my sister drove after passing her test and must have made some sort of impression on her as she bought a 2018 Twin-Air 500 last year.
Thankfully it had been replaced by a Fiat 127 (OML 690K) by the time I got my full licence which was just fantastic for a teenage hooligan - until a year later I bought the 125 (FME 446J) that could mix it with Cortina GTs and Capris.
I have fond memories of the 600 for what it was at the time, but not for being in any way special - especially not at that sort of money!

That RS looks lovely and I can really see the appeal of MK3 Sporty Escorts. I’m fairly sure that Red was one of the original RS1600 colours.
Yes , Sunburst red was one of the 6 colours available but that car looks too dark to be Sunburst , might just be the light ....
I had an RS1600i 34 years ago. It was alright but not much better than an XR3i and nowhere near as nice as a Golf GTI.
It looked good but the ride and brakes were atrocious, it tramlined all over the road and it had the feel of a car based on a pile of s
t, which the CVH Escort certainly was. I drove another one later on and it was just the same.

I assume your referring to the MK2 GTI. Whilst the 16 Valve was highly desirable, I would definitely have the RS1600 over an 8 Valve GTI, due to the RS’s vastly superior looks and performance. XR3s "RS 1600is", GTis, 205 GTis just seemed like cannon fodder for my Capri, but my 16V MK2 Golf GTi was pretty special!

RS dealers in Welshpool (WR Davies) had a 2nd hand RS1600i for sale. One Saturday morning I went jumped out of the 3i and into the RS, needless to say I did not buy it! The only thing that was great (and is still great today) were the seats....the rest of the car was like an XR3i only 'harsher'...not enjoyable at all.
6 months later I purchased a Mk1 Astra GTE (Recaro seats remember) in the 'all white' colour scheme. It was a brill car sooo much better than either a XR3i or RS and even better than the Mk2 Golf GTi that I replaced it with....
Out of all the early mid eighties FWD hot hatches a Mk1 Astra GTE is the only one I would buy today....a red one this time round please!

That GM engine was very good. The Mark 2 GTE was alright once you sorted out the dismal suspension but they never felt like a particularly nice car. I never drove a Mark 1 but I knew they were well regarded.
You're right. My biggest problem with Vauxhalls of that ere - quick ones or otherwise - was the clanky, dimwitted gearchange that felt like it was connected to nothing in particular.Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
