Good evening Gentlemen.

There I bloody go waxing lyrical about our classic cars. The horn has has packed up on my Scirocco. Luckily I’ve not had to take it to main dealership for a full diagnostic check / download.

I’ve had an old Hornby Train Set 12 V power supply across the terminals - the horn unit just kinda “hmmms” / buzzes.

It’s getting power from the car electrical system, and alternatively. I can get a replacement no problem.

But….. I’m thinking Air Horns…

No, not like the ‘ Colonel Bogie’ set I had on my old Mini when I was 17. Which really used to upset my neighbours - who’d have thought?Additionally I’m not thinking 4ft roof mounted - chromed ‘ Mack’ like trumpets.

Before you suggest!

I think an old car deserves a good horn sound when you announce your intention or arrival. I seem to recall air horns are illegal on some / most vehicles.

Any advice?

I mean it’s MOT exempt now. But you need a working horn regardless.

Just a little joy filled, high pitched “ Peep, Peep”
Any thoughts, and any tips?

Standard horns use a lot of current I don't think a toy train transformer will cut it!

As above. Why not connect it to your battery. Be a bugger to buy the lovely new Maserati air horns and the steering wheel connector has bent.

Motorcycle horns are quite high pitched, but are very cheap, just a few quid. smile

One of them failed on my old Triumph Toledo (which really are horn shaped!). I replaced it for about £3 with a cheap motorcycle one and I now have a 2-tone horn.
