Buying & Importing old 1969 car from Helsinki, Finland to UK
Discussion
Hi - I'm looking buy this finnish registered car & to use ferry & drive this car home. Does anyone have any experience of this situation, i.e. the process of buying, recommendations for insuring the car for journey home - i'm struggling to get answers to this. Alternatively, recommendations for shippers who can to move the car to the uk for me. The car is worth & costing about £4k, so 3K for shipping isn't going to be viable. Indeed, the whole venture may be unviable. Thanks Steve
That is a hell of a drive, are you confident the car your buying is fully road worthy. I suppose you would get the Helsinky /Tallin ferry, then its over 1600 miles to the UK, plus Finnish and UK mileage, I bet you will do 2000 miles each way !! Is it worth all that hassle?
If it is worth it, I think it would be better to think about a trailer and a good tow car.

I am having a car delivered from Poole, Dorset to Helsinki on a single car transporter. He is leaving Poole today, so if you can move soon, you could ferry the car to UK on the return trip. Shipping would be considerably less. Pm me your contact info, if you see this as a possibility.
I imported a 1971 Isuzu Florian from northern Finland about 3 years ago.
At the time, there were no passenger ferries, at all, from that part of the world, but there is one transport ferry that brought my car over to the Uk.
I had the car trailered down to Turku ( I think) on the south west corner, and it was shipped (ro-ro ). across to Harwich , where I picked it up a day or two later. They had offloaded ( driven) & put it on the top floor of their old multi- storey. I was escorted in, helped to load, and away
From recollection the Shipping Company was Mann Lines, or suchlike and they or the seller organised the internal transport. I don’t recall much difficulty and the price wasn’t high.
My only alternate was to fly out/ drive back. If you get stuck, I’ll get the paperwork out.
