Hi guys,

Question if anyone is able to assist....

If I was to import a Classic Car into the UK in parts (with the paperwork) - then assemble it in the UK.

Am I then able to register it & pay the relevant duty? or would this cause issues?

Many thanks

I think the difficulty is proving that it's a 19xx car and not a new build - I know we can all look at a pile of bits and see that its obviously 19xx but DVLA want paperwork to prove it.

I may be wrong, but I think the duty is payable on import, not registration.

Are all the parts from the same car?

I'd imagine at registration time, it would be a matter of the points system to see if the car qualified as 'historic'?
Is there an owners' club to hep with the dating?
At this point, I don't think where various components have been for the last n years is really the issue.

Many people have imported non-running vehicles and subsequently rebuilt them and registered them.
One of the firms who import them might give some info on the process.
