This show wasn’t on my radar until they contacted me earlier this year to use my 1972 Alfa GTJ. Looks good though and tonight it airs. They pick a year and then Vicki Butler Henderson and Alex Riley choose a car each which then gets discussed by a panel over which is best. I’m up against a lotus Cortina.
8pm tonight on ITV4

Seen a couple of these progs, very light hearted and subjective of course. I just have a dislike of Alex Riley.

Ye Gods what is VBH wearing?

Is that meant to be her '60's outfit? yikes

Love your Alfa, but it didn't stand a chance against a Lotus Cortina. Both are beautiful cars, cars just aren't styled to be pretty any more.

I enjoy the show.

would have made more sense to compare the Lotus Cortina against an original GTA?! Was comparing apples and oranges!!

I’m not going to take it too seriously but naturally it should really have been a GTA up against the Cortina. Surely in its civvies the Ford wouldn’t have stood a chance.

if it was down to aesthetics alone, the Cortina wouldn't have stood a chance !

Completely agree, it's just a fun program. It was obvious on the 1993 show half hour earlier where that was going.

Had the same thought, plus 0 mention from the presenter of the fact that the 60s press photos they showed were of a 'step front' compared to the later car they used. That presenter never came across to me as someone knowing how to drive/what they were talking about so was about par for the course anyway smile

You say apples and oranges, I know there is one coming where they compare a Jensen Interceptor with a Lotus Europa.

Yes, the year was ‘63 and they constantly referred to the Giulia Sprint which mine isn’t. I suspect I was a stand in as I only got the call a week before filming.

In fairness there are some similarities between the engines in both cars, notably the head design though it is often said that the LTC head is slightly superior to the Nord due to better valve angles.

Usually enjoy The Car Years for the cars, driving & scenery, but fast forward through the 'banter' between the presenters at the end. Alex Riley is undoubtedly a classic car nut, but he irritates me no end. VBH has been doing the same schtick for 25 years.

A harsh old four speed Cortina would piss me off after a couple of hours. The Alfa though - that was a proper car. A Mark 1 1750GTV if I must.

The programme itself is easily bettered by a number of YouTubers tbh.

That's on another level.

It's one of a few reasons I don't own a television.
