Given this is from 1942 we can rule out Landrover

My first thought was it looks something like this...



But the tyre looks smoother and more road like than military, and mounted more upright, so it could be the rear of a car.

Yeah it's unlikely, but as I said it was just an initial thought on first seeing the pic. After a bit more reading up on it I can certainly see where the Woody station wagon suggestions are coming from.

There was definitely one in Alexandria in 1942
