Bugatti spotted
Discussion
On the A13 eastbound at Movers lane about 4pm
Reg was pg 6464
Thought it must be a kit when I saw it from a distance but although I’m no expert looked real when I got up close. Never thought I’d see one being used on the road thought they were all show cars or museum pieces
Need a tune up though definitely running rich

1928 Bugatti Type 44 Grand Sport. It has a 3-litre (2991cc) straight eight engine, derived from the Type 35 Grand Prix car.
The only time I've seen a Bugatti in recent years is when it's being put through its paces in competition either on the track or in trials.
Get yourself to a VSCC meeting, either at Prescott Hill Climb or a circuit, (Cadwell is my favourite) to see Bugattis in action; it's some of the best motorsport you'll ever see.
ETA: a battling duo at Cadwell

I once saw one of the nearer-the-camera models do a run up Santa Pod dragstrip, two-up and on (IIRC) NL plates - it was surprisingly brisk!Get yourself to a VSCC meeting, either at Prescott Hill Climb or a circuit, (Cadwell is my favourite) to see Bugattis in action; it's some of the best motorsport you'll ever see.

There's often one or two at the VSCC monthly at the Hawkedon Queen near Bury St Edmundd - mostly, if not all, part of Terence Cardy's collection.
All the cars seem to be lovely, patina-rich originals - down to the bandolier of plugs (because they do run rich/foul as a matter of course) hanging by the driver's leg. I've met the owner on a couple of occasions - a charming but disheveled septuagenarian in grubby overalls - not what you'd expect from a haulage magnate with an extensive car collection.
(Probably sensible attire mind, the inside of I8 Bugattis looks light on space but rich in potentially oozy mechanicals.)

Lovely cars but they do suffer with a lot of copies out there. Its almost as bad as Cobra and their replicas.
Pur Sang in Argentina made tool room copies for years back in the 80s and 90s, and one magazine article I read from the 80s they visited a well known UK workshop to find three Bugatti chassis lined up ready to be rebuilt. The front third of the first was original, the middle third of the second was original...
Before the internet it was hard to check chassis numbers across the world. One Japanese collector got an awful fright when the rescued the "Bugatti from the lake", only to find he had the exact same car- same chassis number- in his collection, That car had been known about for years, with great provenance
Buyer beware, as they say

Far from it . I regualry see T35s in competition , usauly being driven very hard indeed . And often having been driven to the circuit or hilclimb. Need a tune up though definitely running rich

Sublime cars - I never 'got' Bentleys at all (huge, so-so noise and a little cartoon Brit for me) but Bugatttis make me go weak at the knees. Tiny , perfectly proportioned , and that bloody noise !
My wife`s late father worked for Lord Howe in the 30`s. Lord Howe raced Bugatti`s all over Europe. This photo was taken mid 30`s ( father inlaw in background ) Lord Howe with his racing car. I`ve been told its a Type 51, Bugatti experts please ?

I's Earl Howe's 1931 Bugatti Type 51 Grand Prix (chassis 51121), which had also been driven by Tazio Nuvolari and other famous racing drivers of the early 1930s.Lord Howe in racing mode.
