Hi folks,

New member here from Ireland.

Big fan of the legendary BMW E32 750IL. Saw a picture of a 1989 BMW 750IL from the Earl's Court Motorshow at London on Flickr. I am a new member so cannot post photos yet, so please forgive me!

Anyone attended the 1989 motorshow and can still remember it?
Have more pictures? Please share!
I would love to see them!
Were E32 750IL Highlines ever sold in the UK?
Thanks.

As far as I can recall, the 'Highline' moniker was only used for the runout E24 635i.

No, there was in Europe and elsewhere except USA, a package called Highline for the E32 750IL. The question is was it ever available in the UK for the RHD market?
The package included 4 zone climate control with refrigerator in the rear etc. Quite innovative for the time!
Other options included Park Distance Control (PDC), Automatic Stability Control (ASC) and Auto-dimming rearview mirror.

The other question was whether a Highline was brought to the UK for the motorshow in 1989.

I am still unable to post links or pictures as I am new in the forum.

McGee22 is our resident 80's BMW beard so may be worth tapping him up.

My recollection is that the "Highline" tag was not a UK version - all the ads for cars for sale are LHD. I had a quick look on line for a period price list and it lists the 750i and 750iL but not a Highline trim level. I'm pretty sure that you could spec the HL extras from the factory on your 750iL though. Was there anything bespoke about them that you couldn't just tick on the extras list?

Great looking cars though - my 2nd favorite 7 shape after the E38

Here's a brochure in English and an Italian article featuring some impressive 80's hair....

I suspect the HL was a special option with very few RHD built.
Some of the later RHD E32's had the picnic tables & rear footrests

This forum suggests that approx 5000 HL's were built across al E32 MYs:

High Line seems to have been an option, not a distinct model (production approx 5000).

Reproduced from this forum source:

https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?...

RHD ECE 750iL were not many produced, based on this statistics:
https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...roduction-D...

1987:5,
1988: 715,
1989: 321,
1990: 204,
1991: 90,
1992: 122,
1993: 110,
1994: 40

= total 750iL ECE RHD version 1607 = only 0.52% of the total production.

How many of these had the Highline option package is not shown in the statistics, as the Highline was not a model type, just a optional extra. It is said that less than 5000 E32 were ordered in Highline version. One of the option numbers was 448, but there were 2 more option numbers over the production years
