Sorry, this is always a tedious question...

Mine is a 350 SLC, it lives in Dubai. Just wondering what oil is best, I see SL shop list a 20W50 mineral oil and a 10W40 semi synth. I was thinking the former for grade but it might be difficult for me to lay my hands on a mineral oil out here. 10W40 FS ok?

The original UK Autocar magazine road test listed SAE 30 for a 350SL. A 1971 UK Motor magazine test of a 350SL listed 10/40 or 10/50.
A 1975 UK Autocar magazine test of the 450SLC listed 20/50
The handbook for UK-market 280, 380 and 500 SLs and SLCs (albeit later models) listed 10/40, 10/50, 15/40 and 15/50.

Both 10/40 and 10/50 were shown as suitable for ambient temperatures to 30 degrees C, with a note stating 'SAE 40 may be used if ambient temperatures constantly exceed 30 degrees C / 86 degress F.

I don't know your normal ambient temperatures, but the above might help.
