I'm going through the instruments on my Elan restoration - 1968

The speedo works fine when operated off a drill and the trip counter also works correctly. However the odometer does not turn over after 1 mile on the trip meter.

Not opened it yet - any suggestions?

I once rebuilt an odometer, basically the 'drums' with the numbers on, and the cogs that drive them, were worn out.
Especially the 0.1 drum of the trip.
I used a drum from another speedo and put the most worn drums to the left side.
This was a 'vague liar' clock from an italian bike.

This was before 3D printers were common!

There used to be specialists in the classic bike world who refurbished speedos.

In the Triumph car world, two suppliers regularly get high marks for refurbishment:

JDO:

Speedograph Richfield:

I'm going to send to JDO my 1973 TR6s speedo in the winter for recalibration based on a recommendation though both are highly regarded.

Richfield refurbed my +2 Elan instruments - some years ago mind, but did an absolutely superb job.

How experiences differ!

I had SR do the instruments for my last Plus 2 around 15 years ago and they were dreadful - tacho came back with a repro dial (original was perfect) and the wrong coloured needle. Speedo had the wrong needle.

I had to threaten legal action before they made good - the individual I dealt with was an ahole.

That said once they had admitted their errors the work was good but what an experience.

This time I am minded to give it a go myself.
