I'm looking for a replacement Girling master cylinder - without much success.

It's a Girling unit - model 74660038. I believe they were fitted to several Fords, including various escort models, so I'm surprised that there doesn't seem to be any available from a Google search.

Can anyone suggest a source I could try ?

If you have one in poor condition, then re-sleeving in stainless is an excellent option. Of course, not much use if yours is missing completely.

I've just restored a couple of Girling master cylinders - unless they're especially worn they usually respond well to a light hone and new seals.

Otherwise TRW seem to reproduce many of the old Girling cylinders so perhaps worth getting in touch direct?

Unfortunately I don't know exactly which car the master cylinder came from originally. Unless I'm missing something I can't progress to an inquiry without this information.

I'm absolutely amazed that these things aren't readily available when they came from a mass produced car made in the hundreds of thousands.

Could you post a pic?

I'd be surpised if it's much different to other cars of the era - bores tend to be 0.7, it's the push rod length that tends to vary and that's easily altered.

What car is it for?

There's a place local to me that does re-sleeving. I know several people that have used them and they all have positive things to say. They rebuilt my brake calipers, but they were unsuitable for re-sleeving.

Where are you getting the part no 74660038 from ? If its on the bottle, that will be the part no for the bottle.
Does it have 2 or 3 fluid outlets ?
As mentioned PASTPARTS are great for a re-sleeve.

Does it look like one of these ?

Unfortunately the car isn't with me. The chap doing the work doesn't want to remove the cylinder entirely as he's still moving the car around, I can't get a picture at the moment.

The number is taken from the cylinder itself and I've seen it referenced to Ford Escorts. It has three ports, two fwd and one rear.

Once it's removed I'm sure we'll be able to recondition it, although I would have preferred to get a new one to save messing around. I'll update when I have more info.

If it’s the same as the later RS2000s then I remember really struggling to get one back in the 90s - maybe they’re easier these days. However I think that was an AP unit. Because of this I’m pretty sure I still have a new in pack example lurking in the garage somewhere…

There is a place in Bury St. Edmunds, do not bother going anywhere else, the name escapes me.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Drawn a blank so far, waiting for a reply from the final one.

Past Parts were particularly helpful. Unfortunately no replacement available and re-sleeving may be the route I'll have to go.

Would it be worth talking to a Ford (Escort) specialist, taking a few dimensions and sending an email with photo of your master cylinder and the dimensions, or even better take it there.
Sometimes numbers are superseded etc.

Thanks for the link. They were helpful but unfortunately another blank. Last chance is Retroford who have yet to reply.
