Hi everyone,

just wanted to share a small update from our first-gen Mustang project.

We’ve been working through the car little by little and recently added a new bracing setup in the engine bay. It’s one of those details that doesn’t jump out at first, but fits in nicely with the rest of the build.

It’s an aluminum setup with steel hardware, and we tried to keep the whole installation as clean and natural-looking as possible.

I finally got a few decent installed photos of it on the car, so I thought I’d share them here.

How do you guys usually approach this area on 65–70 Mustangs — keep it fully stock, or make a few small changes as you go?

Did you apply a thin layer of zinc chromate paste between the steel and aluminium?

If you’re talking about that spot, then no — it’s just tape. We were test-fitting the strut brace for the first time and added it to protect the paint from scratches during the install.

The only reason I mention it is to reduce the risk of a galvanic reaction between the aluminium and steel. With the amount of salt on roads corrosion can be accelerated if there isn't something between the two surfaces to prevent oxidisation. Zinc chromate paste is commonly used on boats (where there's obviously a lot of salty water) to reduce the risk of corrosion.

That engine bay looks lovingly prepared smile

Looking forward to the results.
