Can you believe these idiots? Words just fail me. It's as if 'recycling' doesn't mean anything anymore.

The key word behind the stupidity is 'council'

When are these total cretins going to realise that making cars is highly polluting. For many people it is far more eco friendly to continue to use the cars that have already been made.

Rules made by people who don't know anything about cars.

I find that it's useful to have something (say about every couple of years or so) to help you re-calibrate your stupid stick. Councils are usually a good barometer for "stupid" and it's comforting to know that we haven't been let down. Somewhere there will be a local government KPI for "stupid" and Teignbridge District Council are probably at this moment congratulating themselves on ensuring no more entries are required for March.

Coucils employ people to do this kind of thing!

I hope these people can sleep at night.

It makes my brain explode!

Pro-greenies just don't think. Every initiative (light bulbs, Priuses, solar panels etc) has big downsides.

I disagree, they do think, but just not deeply enough.

EFA, anybody in that area needs to contact their councillor and make him/her aware of the negative impression this sort of st creates of them

For me the worst stupidity at the moment is the Prius type cars. Yes, very "ecological" but if you take into account where the batteries are made then the cost of transporting them and that the car will have a life span of maximum 10 year before replacing the batteries is more expensive than the value of the car then long term they are disadvantageous for the "global warming" which hasn't even been proven yet. They want to get the economy working again but it is all PC speak. In other words a damned pack of lies.

Perhaps this is a little bit clever really - They are scrapping the free parking and it could be argued they slipped
this eco-nonsense in to divert attention away from the fact that everyone will be charged to park there from now on regardless of what they drive.

Yes, I'd say so.
However, if councils are going to start targeting older, more polluting but legal vehicles, South Glos and Bristol better put most of their buses on the list.

What ever they do they fail to see the big picture. or do a true calculation of the cradle to grave carbon footprint, I bet a 10 year old car has a smaller footprint than a brand new eco car. Also isn't the rule change a way to get people into the emissions based taxation system.

This craving for newer eco-cars is starting to get out of hand , if they really want to save energy they need to start thinking about re-conditioning/restoring some cars from the nineties not just scrap everything that's over ten years old and penalise anybody who does not own the latest Prius type car , it really beggars belief.

Ah, but if we don't all buy eco-motion-hybrid-pedal cars then Winky and the Badger won't get all there VAT and sales taxes will they? wink

"Council leader Alan Connett said comments from the unions and staff meant the council was "not likely to proceed with the two-tier charging system"."

but don't let it get in the way of your pointless rant, chaps

This kind of thing always rings an alarm bell , when a council wants to implement something that they know will be unpopular they tend to put out a far reaching proposal knowing it will be knocked back , standby for the compromise or half measure real intention , a "reduction" of something for anyone with the latest gee frizz eco car or penalty in some form for anybody daring to make something ten years old or more last a bit longer than the deemed scrap by date.

Now hang on, Grumpy. First; I for one didn't read the article, so I can rant as pointlessly as I like. Second; doesn't that quote raise another question about why the story was reported at all?
