Wow....very few originals left....there weren't many left 25+ years ago when I owned them. P plate as well.....hmmmmm, interesting, and also very rare. Only P plate RS2000 that I was aware of was OJO 567P, which, funnily enough is Modena Green as well. This was car was the last ever RS2000 sold by a RS dealer and was owned from new by a founder member of the club Roger Bailey. He sold in 1984 to a good mate of mine, all original and with about 42k miles on the clock at the time, had been garaged all it's life and severely pampered. It was a lovely car, been slightly modded but not unappropiately, apart from the ruddy glass sunroof banghead
I really wanted to buy it when my mate put it up for sale about a year later. But, I had no garage and wouldn't have been able to pamper it like it really deserved.
Still regret not buying it though.
This was OJO in 1985....I can't remember if this just before my mate sold it on or just after he's sold it?

This was one of the RS2000's I owned, a factory Black car. This was taken back in 1984. It looks nice but was rotten as a pear underneath sadly, and it failed the MOT the following year, and I couldn't afford to restore it and I had to break it and look for another car. I still have the AVO build plate and chassis plates for it though.

Did chat to some chaps on the AVO club stand at the NEC last year about the car and they were also quite taken with her.

They did suggest some values but to be honest she's not for sale so it doesn't matter. No custom pack parts I'm aware of but she does have the central console which I believe it quiet rare. I also think she was fitted with a Mk2 RS2000 head back in the late 70's by the chap I bought her from. She was off the road for 15 years though the 80's early 90's which saved her I'd say.

Should get around to joining the AVO club really...

'P' plate is rare but the village I use to live in actually had 2! An Olympic Blue one lived about 3 miles away! |Haven't seen that one for a few years.

Technically, there was no Custom Pack for the RS2000. The items that made up the Custom Pack on the Mexico were all individually available options on the RS2000 instead, so you could have any possible combinations of bits. It was unusual to have the centre console option without the wood dash option as well, but I do rememeber a few cars on the register that did have them from new and were documented as such.

I don't recall there being any real difference in heads between the original and the Mk2 engines....only the airbox assembley and exhaust manifold were different IIRC...?

Hmmmm same head.... Just means she's even more og lol.
How's this for a sorry state of affairs. Went to by local Ford dealer for the cambelt. Anyway to make things easy for the parts guy I asked for a belt for a 2 litre Pinto. The chap stared blankly at his computer screen and replied 'Er I think Fiat made pintos!'

luckily and old boy over heard and came over to deal with me. Shocking really, or Maybe just a sign of the times

OK, great thread idea. Some of this I have posted before, but any excuse to talk about these wonderful cars
My first car in 1977 was a Mk 1 Escort 1300 Sport, sebring red, K reg Fitted 195’s to it, which use to rub on the inside of the rear arches with 4 up
Did a few engine mods and a louder exhaust [ acceptable then!! ], and it would pull an indicated 110mph !
Second car. 1978, Mk1 RS2000 GOO 99N, green on green, it was already fitted with bubble arches and sadly wolfrace wheels 8” wide, which filled out the arches nicely, but I never got around to changing them.
We lived in Gosport at the time, my mate had a Blue on blue one, another guy had a black one in the area.
You can imagine what used to happen every time we met on the road!

I managed to talk my Father into buying a Original Mk 2 RS 2000 X Pack, ROW 10S in 1978, originally it was droop snoop, but after it was stolen recovered we changed it to flat front, as seen here

My Dad lost his license, so tragically I got to use it! I modded it more and more and started sprinting and hillclimbing ROW, with a lot of success, eventually it had a Neil Brown 2.2 195 bhp motor in it.
As this now became a bit special [ in its day ] I bought a Mk 1 RS1600 completely standard, in French blue? It ran well, but was a bit rotten.
Interestingly, my mate who had the Blue Mk 1 then acquired his first Mk 2 RS2000 in white, and we met up a few times in the cars.
The 2000 had the edge initially, then once the BDA woke up, it would pull it back, nothing in it.
Then I was VERY lucky in 1983 to acquire this Very famous car

Not officially an RS [ it said Escort Popular on the Log book!] but nevertheless, it had great breading!

I had a BDA G3 in 1990, not really an RS, then in 1992, a Escort Cosworth motorsport, K226 VWL

Great car, lots of fun, but no Mk 1 or 2.
Strangely enough, I am looking to get another Mk 1 or 2 sometime in the next year or so, and go have a play again smile

This was mine in 1885. I bought it off a guy who worked for Ford and was involved in building it. I was told it was the last Mk1 Mexico to be built and certainly was registered late, being on a P plate. I still have the original paperwork including the AVO brochure.

Paid £1000 for it and eventually fitted a twin cam.

Can't believe how much these things are worth now.
Sweet car mate..... Looked good back in 1885!! laugh

Where is it now then, do you still own it?

Yes , thats it !! Thats the colour , i remember seeing a couple of mexicos in east london/Essex area in the early 80s in that colour. Dont think it ran for very long as a Mexico colour. Bit Similar to Triumph "Saffron" yellow , which for some reason was quite a common TR6 and Spitfire Colour around 71-72 . Everyone used to call it Mustard . I rebuilt my second Tr6 in 82-83 and changed it from Saffron to Mimosa yellow.

One of them was probably a good friend of mine at the time, and a regular at the old AVO OC Dartford meetings... he lived in Tilbury.

Maize Yellow was replaced by Daytona Yellow in the autumn of 1972.....ish.......so only J and K reg cars effectively.
