The best I found for my 1980 car was the RAC.
£56 for this weekend, 4 days (I leave at 4.30am tomorrow morning biggrin)

The AA would have been about the same price if the guy on the end of the phone had included my members discount. I looked at various other companies but most weren't interested if the car was over a certain age.

Posts in the Le Mans section of this forum praised the RAC but weren't so positive about the AA - which surprised me, as in the UK the AA are very good.

My insurance company (Adrian Flux) would not add this to my policy mid term but they would have done a whole years worth for £50 at inception...

This place came in a bit better than the RAC for me for Le Mans last year, about £40 from memory

As you say, most places don't want to know anything over 15 years old

Strange, R&H insure my car, (1930) and it includes Europe wide cover.
All for £56 / year...

I've always used the AA Five Star europe cover. I've only called on it once, they brought my Healey back from northern Spain and gave us a hire car for 3 weeks. The english speaking phone line helped hugely and I dont think all services offer this.

From memory AA don't cover cars over 15 years nor do Green Flag. Reading the terms and conditions for RAC suggests there is a £100 supplement for cars over 10 year. FWIW I use MSM which gives an annual policy which includes UK as well.

Do you not already have Euro cover as part of your classic insurance policy? Worth checking as many include it free...

The AA cover certainly used to include a caveat about cars over a certain age, but when I queried this I was told it was aimed at people taking decrepit bangers/borderline scrappers, a classic car wouldn't be a problem.

You could argue that one man's "decrepit banger" is another's classic wink

My insurers, Locktons, include a 12 month green card and breakdown cover. Two weeks back the dynamo pulley worked loose and destroyed the shaft 150 miles from home. Next day I was back home and they were brilliant.Yes, I know you don't need a 12 month green card but perhaps they have schemes for such as you next time renewal comes around.

I had a nearly new porsche which meant I had full european breakdown included. Why am I writing this here, because when I broke the windscreen on the motorway near Milan they said they could not help me. So I had to drive home [1000 miles] with the large dent and small hole in the screen taped up with brown gaffa tape - not fun. Its worth asking about this when you are checking the cover.

Many include it "free" then when you phone to get your Green card say "ooh sorry, we don't cover cars over 15 years old!"

Currently looking for cover myself. Used the RAC in the past and were not too impressed with the service when needed.

I'm not sure how many specialist classic policies would elicit this response given many won't insure a car that's under 15 years old on a classic policy!

My insurance is through Footman James and includes a free green card and continental breakdown cover. Thankfully I've only needed to use the service once (disintegrated lower ball joint) but no issues, fast and efficient.

Do still need a Green card? I never bother just take the certificate

With FJ the green card and certificate are the same document. The "green card" is just a document with a sentence or two of text saying "This guy has insurance" in a few different languages and if you take a look at the back of a FJ insurance certificate...
