'80s style Number Plates

I need some correct period number plates making up. Not the usual black or white with silver metal classic plates, but the style we stopped using a few years ago, ie plastic white/front yellow/rear but with the old style wider typeface. Does anyone know of a place who can make these up? There are plenty of outfits who make up "display plates" in ghastly fonts with logos and wotnot, but none I can find who will do this simple thing.
If you can find out what font it is or have a picture of the font your after chances are you will be able to find it on the web as a free down load. The just send the "ghastly show plate" people the .TFF font file and they can type you reg in that font and make up some not ghastly show plates for you.
Try these folks. I used them for period correct plates earlier this year. Great service and lots of choice.

check with them that the plates can be legally used on the road as (unless I misunderstood) the plate I wanted, displayed on that page, is no longer road legal and for use as a show or garage wall platehttp://www.pl8s.co.uk/
Strictly speaking, newly-made ones are illegal.....
If you've got old-style bigger characters type plates on your car from back then, then that's fine. BUT it is illegal to make up new plates with the old style letters, you can only use the new narrower style.
Even if you find a show-plate manufacturer to make you some with the wider characters, they still use the new font but made a bit wider, so some of the letters (like a D) can look a bit odd.

Perhaps, but then the stick-on plates on E-types have always been illegal but I've never heard of anyone being done for them in 50 years. I used www.mgm-spares.co.uk I think the only time a number plate will come into question is at the MOT bay?so keep the other set for the test.Police will only stop those stupid boy racer plates with silly graphics.As we are on the subject of classic plates.Can anyone tell me where I can have a pair of 60`s FRENCH plates made up? remember them,long thin black plate with silver letters.
Yertis mate - I've just bought some of the silver plastic letters from a place - I'll have to go in the garage tomorrow to find out where they were ... I forget for now.
They do all the old type stuff. Even sent the correct Bluemels silver bits for the back in some old packet ... looked like it had been on a shelf for years.
I want the old style 60s typeface in 3 1/8" on my Mustang, but they wouldn't/couldn't make me up a plate to the US size - 12"x6" with the five digit plate I have as they said it wouldn't fit. So they sold me the individual letters.
I got two pieces of 12x6 steel from ebay, and made them up myself. They ARE a bit closly spaced but being a graphic designer, it HAS to look right!

That's the most enjoyable stage of the restoration isn't it! Beautifully painted body, you just need to screw on all the (newly plated and polished) shiny bits... They do all the old type stuff.
