James Bond in a SAAB ????????????????????
Discussion
I remember some newspaper articles about the car, but can't recall anything about a film being made. I think it was supposed to be based on a Bond book by another author, extending the series.
One feature I recall is that the car was suppose to drive itself, some years before the BMW 7 series.

Excuse me for being cynical but what's the betting that Saab slipped the "author" John Gardner a few bob to write their product into the plot??
10 out of 10 for cynicism

You had to be there to know how special a 900 turbo was during their formative years.
Back then a 900 turbo stood out from the crowd. JB would have loved his.
Mmmmmm - Not sure I'd agree with the 'special' bit, but it was distinctive and that's what Gardner latched onto.Back then a 900 turbo stood out from the crowd. JB would have loved his.
The Gardner Bond was very 80s, with concerns about departmental costs, no licence to kill and the like, but the book (maybe more than one as I recall) was fairly enjoyable in that context with definite Bond-esque elements.
The idea of him driving a SAAB was very in tune with the rest of the book though.

The author did drive a Saab himself at the time of the hoo-hah (surprise), I bet he didn't have to buy any more though. I remember reading the adverts above as a kid, having just watched JB trotting about in Esprits I wanted to kill him, still do.Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
