Oil Price Crisis Looms? What now for a sensible classic?

Oh yes, I remember this well, back in the 1970s. The prospect of petrol prices going through the roof! Rationing even? Knock-on inflation pressures follow. So what happens to classic car values? Is this something temporary? Or are the days of the big-engined classic doomed forever? What to do with my 7.2 litre Monteverdi? Must I resort to my Trojan Bubble-Car yet again?

Surely given the number of miles usually driven per annum in a classic, oil price rises are not a huge impost, as a daily driver yes.

6.2 or even bigger 7.3, our 6.2 uses 1/2 gallon to start and another 1/4 to warm up, ie it does about 6 or 7 mpg after cold start and warm up

Mini, Hillman Imp, Morris 1000, BMC 1100 or 1300. (I'd have added Escort 1100, but silly prices now).

Amongst the most economical cars to have during the 70s oil crisis, and 40mpg average if properly maintained.

I fear my track days are numbered now. At one litre every 90 seconds, I'll need to knit myself a balaclava (can't afford to buy one) and rob a bank otherwise. Anyone know how to get triple 45DCOE's to give 50mpg
