At the pub tonight my gurl dug into the sack of beer tales, started reeling off stories from long long ago, from the days when I used to drink "properly"

24 bottles of beer and 2 bottles of wine in a night. Or a bottle of spirits followed by 2 bottles of wine

I necked 3 litres of Vodka & 12 beers one weekend Yup, I counted the beers... it was cool to be able to boast how much poison one had consumed back in those days, something to be proud of etc

And the time I had 40 drinks in pubs one afternoon (she counted for me, cost £180) before getting on a bicycle, rode-crashed my way into a restaurant and guzzled 2 bottles of red wine with a meal I somehow managed to order, the lot consumed without even chucking!

I remember being able to convince bar tenders that I'd won the Canadian National Drinking Championships But, several pints these days and Im finished

Id rather be sober now, relatively speaking, but what happened to those days? Its not possible to drink a quarter as much as we did, back then

How does the saying go... "The older I get, the better I was"

My old boss once came to the pub with us apres work under strict instructions that he was to stay for no more than an hour. In an hour he went through a good 10 pints, caught the train home, got off at his stop and then took so long walking home that as soon as he got into bed, the alarm went off for the next morning!

He called in sick...
