As some of you know I'm a student staying in private halls. Recently there have been a spate of car break-ins and attempted muggings. I'm wondering if the Landlord has any legal requirement to maintain security lights, and CCTV already installed? (we are told that the CCTV works, but the recorder unit malfunctions)

I appreciate cars are left at owners risk etc etc. I was just wondering if I could force them to do anything under the guise of maintanance, as its really getting on our wicks now.

Cheers in advance.

Your best plan would be to calmly and persuasively negotiate with the University through some recognised student body, rather than walking in to the VC's office waving a law textbook around. I don't see how you could force them to make these improvements, IIRC there are fairly scant requirements on them.

Its private halls. EG not part of the uni.
I've no intention of waving a law book around, I just want to know if I have anything to back me up as I'm sick of asking now.
