Presents are good, I like free stuff as much as the next kleptomaniac - but why do people I speak to once in a blue moon whose names I forget more often that not feel the need to buy me christmas presents?

I'm left with two choices:

1: Buy them a present, but I'm skint already after shopping for my family.

2: Ignore them. Then they think I'm a ****, I feel guilty .

I don't especially dislike these people, why couldn't they have just sent me a card? I don't feel guilty when I find them in March and realise I forgot to open let alone read them.

Make it loudly and generally known that you donate to charity rather than sending people cards/presents at christmas and if anyone wants to get you something they can put money in a charity box somewhere

Ignore the damn generous people. It's their fault for spending out, not yours!!!

That would work if I ever spoke to the people in question!

They're the random 'friends' you literally speak to once a year at christmas.

when they come up to you with presents just grab them and say "gimme that" and walk off.

open it up and if its rubbish just bin it.
