Make Poverty History
Discussion
Hi all!
In the spirit of the festive season, I'd like to share this with you:
make poverty history
Please please sign up, it costs nothing except a few minutes of your time....it's about time governments sat up and listened. If you register you can get one of the white "Make Poverty History" armbands in January (when the campaign officially launches) - wear it with pride. You might have seen it on the Band Aid progamme on BBC1 a couple of weeks back.
Anyways, some of you may like the idea...others may not but its a chance to bombard the government

No problem, a great idea, glad to be a part of it.

I dont see how people are gonna end poverty unless we all become communist.
Poverty will always exist in some form or another. Even in an idealistic communist society there would always have to be some inequalities, even if they were slight a comunist environment would enhance such and create poverty.
The whole point it to try and make lives easier for these unfortunate people and help them to built their country.
The problem is people think 'we can't do much, let's not do anything'.
My cousin is a doctor and runs a hospital and health programme in Africa funded almost exclusively on scrounged cash and what she can earn as a Locum in other countries. It's a big problem, but at least we can make some sort of effort.

forget the detractors, keep up the good work, what else is the point of all these ideals we have attained in society, if we can't be bothered to help others?
I'm sorry to spoil the rosy-tinted fun but it's naive rubbish. Geldof and all his champagne socialist mates like Bono and Sting are still far richer than me. How come? Why haven't they given it all to poor people and starving Africans? Some suggestions: 1) Give money to poor Western people and they will spend it on fags and lottery tickets. 2) there's nothing for starving Africans to buy anyway. $1 a day is fine - plus they don't have to pay 47 different taxes anyway. 2) Feed then now, and who's going to feed them next year? 3) Feed them until they breed and who feeds the resulting 20 children?
The world has evolved the way it has because that's the natural way of things. That's the way it has always been and always will be. Some people think that everything can be cute and fluffy and everybody will be equal, but that is not human selection at work. Take natural selection out of the equation and evolution ceases, or even reverses.

maybe it will maybe it wont but whats tha halm in a little effort.
ahh effort, the key word there. A quality that is lacking in a lot of people. Don't let apathy and cynicism stop you, if it did, nothing would be achieved in this world, other than armchair philosophising.
