Missing Relatives
Discussion
Hope this PH'er who replied to one of my threads is ok, travelling to Thailand for Christmas, hopefully not near the coast.
Just got back from Australia and saw his reply at the bottom of the page here www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=141&h=&t=141825
Hope you're ok rsvmilly.
Spoke to a guy at Singapore airport who had two friends still missing, possibly washed away as they were sleeping in a ground floor apartment when the wave came over in Indonesia. The lad I was speaking to wasn't in his room because as he put it, he "got lucky the night before" and wasn't in the same ground floor apartment. He was racked with guilt and was in an absolute mess.
Terrible course of events.
Hope everyone here gives a donation to the relevent charity.

Thanks very much for your concern. It is truly appreciated.
As I said to Gazboy, we were the lucky ones this side of the mainland but it does make you wonder, but for the grace of god.
Friends here have lost contact with friends on Koh Lak and Phuket so spirits are a bit low.
Most tourists intending to go to Phuket have now headed for Samui, Phangan and Koh Chang so the islands are full. Not quite sure I can get off the island wiht the numbers travelling.

Well, made it back to Blighty this morning. Was greeted by wind and rain and the kind of landing that makes you yearn to be on solid ground again. Nervous? Moi? Perhaps a little.
As posted earlier, the eastern islands like Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao were chock-a-block.
I had to travel on something called a 'TRAIN' from Suri Thani to Bangkok which was punctual and clean and about a tenner, air cond with sleeper. Their public transport certainly puts ours to shame.
Anybody who knows the usual bustling of Th Kao San Road couldn't help but notice the lower spirits and the huge lists of missing and dead people (at the Gullivers end). Some photos of unidentified people with pleas for clues on their identity - not child-friendly for sure.
The Thai government seem to be bending over backwards to accomodate the affected and their families - again putting our own government to shame.
Well, glad to be back(!!!!) and work on Monday.
