Too much. Good bit of wisdom....don't try and run a 600cc motorcycle while at uni and use credit cards to fork out for any bills and accessories.

Yup....i'm a fool i know but i'm just glad it's all other and I'm not letting those theiving evil b@st@rds take anymore away from me. CC's are the bane of all evil!

Was this something of a "Save Karyn" jobbie?

Very strange story:

www.savekaryn.com

Oh. I remember at the age of about 25 feeling just like you do. I had a very short and unpleasant period when it seemed that every month things were getting worse. I got depressed, ill with it. Then I took action. Boy did it feel good. Even better when I looked at my savings account and discovered it was actually increasing every month.

Good for you. Well done.

My 17 year old daughter keeps going on about taking her driving test and getting a car and she's at college.
She is exactly the type to run up debts like that on CCs.
Mind talking about it and doing it, two different things.

Good for you......

However don't you mean smallest amount of "DEBT" on it...

I have long advocated these cards (which can be very useful if used correctly, or in time of crisis) should BY LAW be called DEBT cards, then it might make people think twice before using them.....

Myself included.....

Interestingly I still avoid "Credit Cards" like the plague. I have two "Charge Cards" which MUST be paid off at the end of each month: An Amex card because you do and a Mastercard because its actually accepted everywhere.

Having said that I bought my last three cars using

Switch!

"Can you just put it on that for me?"

The problem is they are so easy to get. At one point I had enough combined credit for £45,000!!! (And I was only 21 at the time).

Now you tell me if that is responsible banking. They are theives and good on to anyone that can rob a bank without any violence and get away with it. They have too much money as it is.

Just warn your daughter of the dangers. If she doesn't believe you, just get her to talk to me.

Btw....before you all gasp, i wasn't £45k in debt! That would be shocking to say the least but let me tell you £6.5K isn't easy to pay off and think of how much money the bank made from me......

Evil gits......

At one point I had 13 credit cards as a result of transfering balances every 6 months to take advantage of the 0% offers. I now use them for free cash advances which I put in a high interest internet account and as long as I can afford the min payment each month (which is easy as you just transfer the cash from the high interest account) then you get an easy £300-£400 a year. Happy chuffing days!!!

Talking of credit card companies, there's a fair bit in the media today about their 'unfair' practice of mugging customers for £20 - £25 for lateness and exceeding a limit (yet again ) regardless of whether the monthly payment is a day late or a month, and regardless of whether the limit is exceeded by a pound or a grand. This 'unfair' practice is generally seen - together with 'extortionate' APRs - as due for a re-think...about time too. Should also mention that the payment protection schemes are being branded as rip-offs, they don't always do what the cardholder expects, and are useless for the self-employed. It says here.

There's a lovely article on the Motley Fool about credit cards where they advocate substituting the word "debt" for "credit".

ie. "Debt card", "easy debt terms", "low-interest debt", "interest-free debt for 6 months" "Poor debt rating? Don't worry -- we can offer you debt today!"

Scary, eh?

Best feeling I had was a few years ago when I paid off my mortgage! Me and the wife had a "celebratory burning" of the mortgage statement. I felt like a kid all over again!

Free?

How do you do that, then?

Doesn't interest on such advances start from the day of withdrawal?

If that amounts to more than fifty quid it must also amount to an absolute ton of work every month moeving things around.

That's OK for the extreme and savvy enthusiast. That' nowhere near OK for most people...
