spare any change mate?
Discussion
Something about waking up to blue skies this morning prompted me to start some premature spring cleaning. I got round to sorting out my loose change pot (1p/2p/5p), got a little engrossed whilst listening to some music and went and did my parents stashes as well. Between the three of us we had £30!
It got me thinking about how many millions of pounds people have lying around in jars/pots/etc.
Do you empty your pockets/wallet/purse of 'shrapnel' each day and chuck it somewhere?

I collected up about £40 in change a while back. Took it into the Building society to put in our little savings account. The snotty woman refused to take it. Said she could only accept amounts of £10 or less in change
Still that got me into the habit of if possible always paying the odd pence when I buy bits and bobs. E.g. if goods come to £6.32 I might hand over a tenner plus the odd 32 p if I have it. It works quite well and I don’t accumulate piles of coppers and 5p’s that way.

I do this too! I paid someone yesterday in change and they just looked at me as though I was doing something wrong!
Every Thursday (Payday) I chuck all my change from the week in a bottle and start again with Notes, I find that the notes will last til Wednesday and the change is the crap that I collect. Like the 54p change every morning when I buy my pint of milk, by wednesday I may give them 50p, but the 4p accumulates
My problem is I find money bloody everywhere, I took the seat covers off my front seats before christmas and found a warm crisp £20
Theres £15 in the money tray, 32 Euros in the other money tray, tons of shrapnel in the glovebox and more change in different parts of the house than I care to imagine.

Our Asda have a machine that you just empty all your loose change into. It counts it all up, prints out a receipt that you take to the customer service point, who then give you the amount back in folding.
Only problem is that they charge you 7.5% for the privelage.
Was a bit miffed when I had £150 worth of change and had to give them over a tenner. On the other hand, it only took 5 mins to shovel the change in so I suppose it wasn't that bad.....

I have used the machine many times in the ASDA and Sainsburys. Yes, it does cost 7.5% but you can put in the coins all mixed along with my Euros, which it returned :-( Saves bagging and banking.

Slightly O/T, but chez Dibble, we have a large (about 18 inch diameter) spherical jar, that used to be one of those indoor garden things - so the glass is quite thick. We chuck all our corks from wine in there.
The worrying thing is, it only takes about ten months to fill...
and we don't even cheat with plastic corks
